-how do we make people laugh?
In this artistic research, Teija Vaittinen investigated performative ways of making people laugh. She explored comedy and ridiculousness both theoretically and practically, and then tested out verbal and nonverbal tactics of comedy production performatively.
Through performance sketches using the methodologies of clowning, she examined the depth and breadth of performative silliness in order to better understand the mechanics of comedy production. How is a funny situation constructed? What are the verbal and nonverbal tactics of comedy production? Where does the humor lie in everyday life situations? The answers to these questions were pursued with stumbling bodies, witty words, and language confusion – and always with maximum clowning effort!
