Together, we will engage with questions such as: How can the research work of residents be made visible? How can encounters—so essential to artistic practice—be initiated? At the opening of the two-day gathering WE ARE AT WORK, we will discuss at FFT how residencies need to be designed so that artists can truly make them their own place and time. On the second day, at tanzhaus nrw, talks, presentations, and more will offer insights into the practical side of residencies—both from a scholarly perspective and from the artistic perspective of the residents themselves.

The contributions on Saturday at tanzhaus nrw include presentations by:
ABA NAIA
Brig Huezo
Go Plastic Company
Elsa Artmann / Sanfte Arbeit, slk.

Political Bodies – Dialogues between Germany and Brazil in the Performing Arts

MITsp and the Goethe-Institut São Paulo invite you to the event “Political Bodies – Dialogues between Germany and Brazil in the Performing Arts.”

Bringing together artists and thinkers from Brazil and Germany, the event explores the body as a site of creation, memory and resistance through performance, choreography and critical discourse. Get to know the participants:

Olympia Bukkakis, Queen of Heaven and Earth, Empress of Despair and Architect of Her Eternal Suffering, is a drag queen, choreographer, moderator and writer. Originally from Australia, she has lived and worked in Berlin since 2012, where she hosts queer performance events such as Get Fucked, Queens Against Borders and Apocalypse Tonight.

Kysy Fischer (BR) uses humor to blur and confuse disciplines such as dance, performance and theater. As a choreographer, she is interested in minimalist exaggeration and playful contradictions. Her work engages with themes of psychoanalysis and class issues.

Moderation by Helena Vieira, a writer, playwright, and researcher whose career is marked by the intersection of art, philosophy and memory.

Starting from the idea of the body as a territory of creation, memory, and resistance, the meeting proposes a reflection on how artistic practices can challenge aesthetic norms and power structures, exploring the crossroads between Brazil and Germany.

Artistic residency at HAU, Berlin

Research project "Obscenas" at Hebbel am Ufer

We are thrilled to announce we’ve officially kicked off our artistic residency at HAU – Hebbel am Ufer in Berlin!

We’ll be diving deep into our research project, “Obscenas”, supported by Fonds DaKu.

“Obscenas” (ABA NAIA) explores the desecration of stage practices by merging text and dance in two solo works. The residency deepens the interdisciplinary working method and develops new forms that will lead to a piece development in 2026. The participating artists deal with the invisibilization of artists and examine the appropriation of an “obscene” position as resistance.

Get ready for some exciting updates on this journey!

More to come here.

Fest of Fools festival 2025

Kysy Fischer at Fest of Fools festival 2025

On the 16th of May, Kysy Fischer will be performing a short experiment of her work-in-progress at Fest of Fools festival.

There will be also a workshop on the 15th of May held by Kysy Fischer, Raul Vargas Torres und Felix Baumann. More info here

The Fest of Fools is a festival that highlights humor as a medium in choreography, cultural practice and social dialogue. Held over three days, the festival brings together five choreographers who utilize humor as a liberating cultural technique to address and clarify its systemic relevance, particularly during times of crisis.

Through five performances and one workshop, “Humor as a choreographic, aesthetic and political tool in cultural praxis” , the festival investigates humor as both a cultural and social phenomenon. The works presented aim to examine humor’s essential aspects and its cathartic function, exploring its potential to create distance, provoke thoughts and break societal boundaries. The festival seeks to present a variety of artistic expressions, using humor as a tool for critique and a catalyst for transformation.

“Profanas” at the Residency Program of Schloss Bröllin 2025

Residency from 14.07.25 to 27.07.25

KYSY FISCHER & ABA NAIA "Profanas"

We are glad to share the news that “Profanas” by Kysy Fischer is one of the selected projects to be at Schloss Bröllin Residence Program in July 2025

In July 2025, Kysy Fischer and her collective ABA NAIA will move into Schloss Bröllin to work on two new solos.

“Profanas” by Kysy Fischer is an exploration of the naked body on stage. This discourse is told through the story of the performer, who wanted to become a dancer as a child in Latin America in the 1990s. Fischer’s first dance solo is about the friction between the material reality of a child whose family could not afford to buy a costume for dancing and the concreteness of an adult body on a stage – both as possibilities to shape the fantasy of dancing.

The piece combines autobiographical narratives with choreographic approaches and occupies the entire space. By occupying a space from which she was previously excluded, Fischer traces her aesthetic choices and sheds light on the social context of Brazil in the 1990s. “naked” is an analysis of the effects of financial scarcity on the development of a dancing body. It examines the politics and affects of exclusion through class experiences and their influence on intimacy and identity. In contrast to the discipline of dance, from which she was excluded, Fischer also explores her neurodivergence as a choreographic tool.

A voice on a zig-zag course. Rafaella Marques experiments with the sonority of a text written in a stream of thought. The word moves. Imagine that. The experience of a “choreography of words”. Pause. There must be a pause. The truth is… The ridiculous. Fragmented, poetic, vulnerable narratives. Open wounds, open breasts, everything is interrupted, a conflict with life, with career. exhausted body, happy body, endless contradictions. It contains irony, anger at everyday life, discouragement and affection. It contains precariousness. It contains domestic life, guilt and desire. Rafaella Marques’ text experiment is a further development of her research into the artistic treatment of thought flow, which she began in 2021

Super Superficial in transeuropa Festival

Dear ABA NAIA friends,

we are happy to invite you to our next show

Super Superficial

in transeuropa Festival Hildesheim

Super naked, super exposed, super shrill. “Super Superficial” is a performance of movement and sound that bends and breaks surfaces and addresses their transience. A mirage of bodies that deform, shift and merge with the surfaces and boundaries of space.
